HEY SO i kinda collect animated short vids, and i thought i’d make a MASTERPOST of ones i love/rec.
Out of Sight: adorable, beautiful, wonderful, about a little girl searching for her dog in a fantasy-realism setting. MAJOR STUDIO GHIBLI VIBES.
One By One: disney animated short that is fabulous and wonderful and SET IN AFRICA WITH ACTUAL BLACK PEOPLE just beautiful and the music is wondrous (i believe the song was one cut from the lion king?).
Red: great little short based on little red riding hood. animation is a bit choppy but i looove the pacing.
Colour: beautifully animated imaginative take on how things got their colors. also kinda sad! but cute!
To RP Salazar, With Love: STORYCORPS. Storycorps is a national project to record real life stories from people and make animations from them. Anywho, this is a super cute accidental meeting thing.
Tarboy: godddd i love this one. awesome stylized moody creative animation that has an AMAZING STORY. kinda dark! but fun! and cool! a little. violent. but no blood, just robotic violence…………. so yeah this is about robots and revenge.
Heart: okay THIS IS TECHNICALLY A COMMERCIAL but it’s still gorgeous, w/e. collage-based animation.
Kagemono: The Shadow Folk: cute yet MILDLY DISTURBING story of a fox pup who makes an odd friend in the woods.
Invention of Love: A tragic love story about plants and gears and a dude who is a dick. but very, very pretty.
Skip: featuring an awesome dude who is not a dick and a super cool lady having some trouble with a film reel.
Proteigon: THIS WILL RUIN ALL STOP ANIMATION FOR YOU. by being mindbendy awesome.
Rome: okay warnings for violence, body horror, death, animal death, blood, and just mindfuckery animation (and?? maybe?? suicide??? it’s HARD TO TELL). SUPER gorgeous and moody as heck. revenge thing.
Destino: another disney animated short! recently completed, it was a collab between disney and salvador dali. about a lady in a maze.
Ink: promo for central china tv, beautiful animation of ink and ink painting.
Shadows: featuring death being an enormous dork and a little girl ghost who isn’t ready to pass on yet.
In Between: THIS ONE FUCKING ROCKS OH MY GOSH. A young woman deals with her shyness in the form of a crocodile. just. so good. with french subtitles.
Lapsena: About a little girl waiting for her parents to come back. you may cry.
The Cat Piano: okay first this is SO WELL WRITTEN, gosh, the poem is so great and delivered well ahghghgjjghhjfdfgdkjsf??? anyway it’s about a city of singing cats being driven to silence by a creepy as heck dude. with a good ending. but SUPER CREEPY. warning for animal death/violence. GORGEOUS colors as well.
I’m a Monster: what great character designs. and concept. i love the little girl. and voice acting. and character animation. kjdhfjksdhgsjgkgdjgdfk.
Vow: beautiful short tale of revenge and loss. also about a mother and daughter so. :<
The Backwater Gospel: OKAY SO THIS IS INCREDIBLY VIOLENT. I AM NOT JOKING. SUPER, MAJOR VIOLENCE. very beautiful! but lots blood and death and disturbingness.
Old Fangs: short by the studio that did Secret of Kells, so obv very pretty. very quiet and sad, about the woods and wildness and childhood and family estrangement and loss. also kinda slow.
Adam and Dog: about Adam in Eden and meeting the first dog. also about the Fall, and how dogs ain’t give a shit about what god says.
also PAPERMAN you guys can find it on youtube if you for some reason have not seen it.
